 The gods keep secret the joy of death that man may endure the sufferings of life. As all things are impermanent, all pleasures and the physical body must undergo death and transformation as part of the great cycle of life. Join us in our daily jazz funeral processions through the streets of BRC with our hearse. Confront your mortality and write your own epitaph on a tombstone to be placed in the Black Rock City Cemetery. Let's put the "fun" back into funeral!
Black Rock City Morgue and Tantric Funeral Parlor Theme Camp: Have a bad hangover from partying too much last night? With our pedal-powered "hearse" the BRC Tantric Funeral Parlor will have daily New Orleans-style jazz funeral processions through the streets of BRC encouraging people to bring out their dead. The hearse will have a canopy, curtains, and "corpse" pillows for people to lay on as they ride in the back. Those who join the procession can inquire at the camp for a cause of death prediction and receive a complementary custom toe tag. The Coroner will perform autopsies on anyone who appears to be a spectator to find out why they are still walking around when they are actually dead. The Tantric Funeral Parlor will perform funerals, magical, and voudoun rituals. Visitors can create their own tombstone and place it in the BRC Cemetery after their funeral. The Morgue and Tantric Funeral Parlor structure will consist of a 20' x 20' conduit canopy structure with black shade cloth covering the sides. Our plan is to paint the shade cloth with murals and text including the poem Kali the Mother and an excerpt from William S. Burrough's interpretation of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, The Western Lands. We are planning to make extensive use of solar power for our lighting and power needs. The hearse will be equipped with x-mass lights for nighttime cruising and we are hoping to complete several el-wire bikes with animated skeletons for the "skeleton crew."
Black Rock City Cemetary: As with our theme camp, the purpose is to address the enevitible process of death of the body and the impermanence of all material things. The cemetery perimeter will be marked with a dilapidated-looking picket fence. The entrance will have a gothy gate with faux wrought iron and topped with a spooky sign illuminated at night with solar powered lights. Visitors to the Tantric Funeral Parlor camp will have the opportunity to design their own tombstone and place it in the graveyard. Cemetery visitors may leave offerings or conduct private tantric rituals. The tombstones will be burned on the last day in a funeral pyre. |
